Our Free Kayaking Programs!
All programs are *Weather permitting. *No reservations required.
These sit-on-top kayaks are fun and easy. No experience required-but you must know how to swim. The paddlers kayak in the boundaries of the embayment at Frank Sinatra Park. Experienced kayakers patrol the area of the embayment. Children can paddle with adults. Double and single kayaks are available. We supply life-vests, paddles and boats! Wear water shoes or sandals and clothes that dry fast. Directions are on our website.
And....We also have free trips across river for those athletic types that feel adventurous. You must reserve a spot for the trips. contact dragonsandy1@yahoo.com
For directions and more info on the Jersey City Reservoir....
check the Jersey City Reservoir website www.jcreservoir.org (or our website here.... we had a Reservoir program last year and the info is still up). The Reservoir is a lovely place-and we are trying to save it from being destroyed by developers. Come paddle around with us! Help preserve the Reservoir-and come to Hoboken's shore and support free river access! If you paddle around with the Hoboken Cove Boathouse folks, please sign our petition to the Mayor! It's set up at our free kayak events in Hoboken.
If you can't make it....You can also write Mayor Roberts through the city website. www.hobokennj.org
Please-Tell him you would like a free community boathouse in Hoboken!

Thanks for a Great Season
We've been so busy with all of the great free kayaking going on at HoboCobo that we've neglected to post some of our recent photos and videos! Sorry!
We had our last two sessions of the season on August 14th and August 28th. The weather made our August 14th session an adventure not long after we got there. We managed to put a number of people on the water, but then the clouds, wind and rain had other plans for us and our little kayaking shantytown, which we had to hold up ourselves and keep from flying away.

Undounted by clouds again, we returned two weeks later, but this time, the skies were much friendlier and we had a fantastic turnout to end the season.
Although, some might say that the kayaking went to the dogs. Remember, to get on the water, you need a lifejacket!
Thanks to all for a great season. We'll be back next year, hopefully in a more permanent home. We'll continue to post messages on our progress during the off season. Also, remember that you can still kayak for free at the Downtown Boathouse until mid-October at Pier 26 (a few blocks south of Canal Street).

Videos from July 30th and Info on This Weekend
This Sunday, August 14th, from 12PM -4PM, we'll be having our next FREE KAYAKING DAY in Frank Sinatra Park. Its going to be in the 90's, so if you're not at the beach, the place you should be is here.
So what's involved?
Check out the pics and videos from our last event on July 30th...
First, volunteers from the Downtown Boathouse take kayaks over to HoboCoBo. Sometimes we paddle over, but lately, the currents have been too strong, so we got help from Jim and Tim.

Then, we pitch a tent. We're getting better and better at our tent construction. Eventually, we hope to build a radio out of coconuts to signal for help to get us off the island. Oh, wait... that's a TV show... nevermind.
When you show up, we make you sign a waiver, get you life jackets, put you in a kayak, and then tell you our safety boundries, as shown here:

Then, you kayak. See...

When you come back, you are smiling, like these people. If you're not smiling, we hit you on the head with your own paddle. By now, everyone knows to smile.

Here are some other fun pics...

Free Kayaking Returns to Hoboken this Saturday, July 30th!!
After a long layoff, we'll be back this Saturday at noon to pitch Camp Kayak and run our free kayaking program. So far, its been a huge success and this Saturday should be no exception. In fact, to ensure our success, we'll be running a special:
Everyone with a smile can kayak ABSOLUTELY FREE! That's right, FREE! No free lunch? Maybe not, but this Saturday, every person who shows up to Frank Sinatra Park with a smile on their faces from 12PM-4PM can kayak for free.
Limited time offer. No purchase necessary. See your local HoboCoBo volunteers for details.

Our Founder
Here's a picture of our founder in Frank Sinatra Park...
You didn't know that Elvis founded HoboCoBo? He did, and he's an excellent kayaker... and a hound dog.

New Jersey Volunteers needed!
The Hoboken Cove Boathouse is looking for New Jersey volunteers for our next 3 dates! Please contact me at dragonsandy1@yahoo.com if you want to help out. We will train you fast!
The dates are
Saturday- July 30th
Sunday August 14th
Sunday-August 28th.
12pm-4pm weather permitting....
If you are a kayaker--that's just great--but-one does not have to know how to kayak to help out!
Here's what we do as volunteers...and -possible ways you can help out...
If you happen to be a kayaker-we need folks to paddle around the embayment and lifeguard in a kayak.
On land....We need folks to sign up paddlers- and set people up with lifejackets....We also need help putting people in boats and pulling kayaks in and out of the river...And we need folks to hand out info sheets. So--if you want to kayak, or just want to be around a fun river fest atmosphere--- this is the right place! Come join us for a few hours-or all day!
And...at the end of the day--- if you are feeling especially athletic-we need folks to paddle the kayaks back to Manhattan! Thanks Everyone!! Sandy
