Dear Friend:
We’re writing to ask you to support the first and only free community boating program on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.
Over the past 7 years, you may have enjoyed or read about the numerous public programs and activities sponsored by the Hoboken Boathouse. In that time period, our volunteer-run, non-profit organization has helped more than 3,000 people safely paddle different parts of the scenic Hudson River. Our organization is currently comprised of experienced kayakers and enthusiastic volunteers, including members of the Downtown Boathouse in New York City, which has generously supported the development and growth of our fledgling organization and programs.
Our primary community program is the successful Free Kayaking Day, which provides a chance for novices – children, teens and adults – to paddle the cove at Maxwell Place Park. In August 2008, we were excited to open the Maxwell Place Boathouse as a truly public boathouse and a base for our growing programs. During this summer, we offered four free programs at our new location. In order to organize and host more free programs, training events and local excursions, we need your help as a Boathouse supporter and by making a tax deductible donation for some of the many items essential to the new Hoboken Boathouse. Here’s how:
Boathouse Expenses: Help pay for Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse’s monthly expenses.
Marine Radio: $200 can buy a new Marine Radio to help ensure safety on the Hudson River
Single Sit -On-Top Kayaks: $1400 for a one-person sea kayak dedicated in your name or organization’s name*
Deck Boats: $1,500 and up for a deck boat kayak for volunteers to use to help run programs, train, and guide free river trip-s dedicated in your name or organization’s name*
*Though we should tell you, as a public program we cannot reserve these kayaks for any one person’s use
I know you are getting lots of requests like this in your mailbox, but I also hope you appreciate what a difference we are making in Hoboken, in Hudson County, and in the State of New Jersey by creating these opportunities for more and more people to connect to the river. Please join us as a supporter now so that we can provide a safe, fun, and active recreation opportunity on the Hudson River in Hoboken. You can make secure donations through PayPal, or you can use the mailing address below for donations. We sincerely appreciate any help you can offer at this time!
Safe paddling,
David Downs
